2021.09.28 22:41 Cyber--J 21 M UK Looking for new friends

Hey lonely guy from the UK here,
I hope that this post gets some replies, i have made a post like this in the past and sadly i was ignored. Lately my 'friends' have been pushing me out or overall being unfriendly and i am ready to find new friends/people to talk to. I am making this post to try and find some friends that i can message, talk to, play games with, watch a show with and overall have friends.
As for my hobbies, i mostly spend my spare time playing video games or watching anime. It would be nice to have some friends that have the same interests and friends that are overall people to talk to.
Thank you for reading my post, i hope to hear from some people soon

2021.09.28 22:41 AmadeusGreenwood I can't physically talk how should I go about applying for a job?

I literally lost my voice a while back, I can talk still but its a massive strain on my vocal cords for me to talk. What should I do about this? Should I file for disability? Or can I still apply for a job and just mention to the boss "hey I'm interested in working for this position but I literally cannot talk" although I'm sure they would want some type of medical records to show proof or something.
Can someone help me out here? Are there any jobs for a mute person can apply for?

2021.09.28 22:41 Cawlo Ole sad på en knold og sang / Gutkis akilat kaladega saþeu

The original Danish poem alongside the Aedian version.
Ole sad på en knold og sang [ˈʔoːlə ˈsaˀð̱̞ᵞ pʰɔˑ‿ŋ kʰn̥ʌ̹ˀl ɐ ˈsäŋ] (1899) is a poem written by Danish social realist writer Jeppe Aakjær [ˈjɛpə ˈʔɔˑˀkʰaɐ̯ˀ], later given a melody by composer Alfred Tofft.
It's a song that I grew up singing, and while as a child I found it very silly and amusing, I have gotten a newfound appreciation for its lyrical content. So much so that I decided to translating the poem into Aedian.
Meter I've used the Aedian meter known as tigu-akae [ˈtiɡu(w)aˌkae̯] (“the rhythm of storytelling”). This meter consists, at its core, of three dactyls, a long syllable, and finally an anceps syllable. However, apart from the first long syllable of the first dactyl and the long syllable before anceps, each long syllable may be substituted for a pyrrhic, and vice versa. Thus tigu-akae can be written as – ⏕ ⏔ ⏕ ⏔ ⏕ – ×.
What is and isn't a long syllable in Aedian is something I won't get into here, but if you're interested, then just leave a comment about it!
Text As you can see in the attached picture, the original poem consists of eight stanzas of two lines each. I have attempted to produce an English translation to the best of my ability, trying to capture the essence of the original words, but have neither reproduced the original meter (– – – ⏑⏑ – – –) nor the rhymes.

  1. Ole, sitting on a clod, was singing, sheep and rams were jumping all around him.
  2. The wind passed through the heather and the clouds flew by, yearnings for travelling were searing in his heart.
  3. The heath kept him locked and his memories bound him; mother's eyes, however, bound him the strongest.
  4. Soon, however, one thing became apparent: Memories do not make the matter clear.
  5. One day, then, Ole began to walk, and suddenly he stood by the great sea.
  6. The eye shone, the tear flowed, nothing in the world bound him anymore.
  7. The shepherd swept over the seas, the sheep are still standing there, gawking.
  8. Neither rams nor sheep can understand the journey of yearnings across the waves.
I highly encourage you to translate this poem, or parts of it, into your own conlangs!
Aedian translation

“Gutki was sitting on a hill, singing, the rams and ewes jumping around him. [2] The winds pierced the grass and the clouds. A desire to go on a journey did the same (to him). [3] But childhood memories and nice views restrain young people, and mother's eyes do so the strongest. [4] Suddenly, however, he began to realize, that truth is never understood by childhood memories. [5] He began to walk away from his village, and then suddenly he was standing in front of the sea. [6] The young man's eye let go of a tear. Since then, nothing could restrain him any longer. [7] And the shepherd, eager, went across the ocean. The sheep are still standing around near the hill. [8] Sheep, unaware, can't understand, what emotion pulls a young person out to sea.”
In accordance with the Aedian tigu-akae meter, I have attempted to stylistically translate the poem in its entirity. Certain things have been rephrased from the original, but I think I've succeeded in making Jeppe Aakjær's poem accessible to Aedian speakers. I also had to change the name Ole to a more fitting Aedian name – I ended up choosing Gutki, since it's a trochee.
So here it is:
  1. Gutkis akilat kaladedu saþeu ae tokkas ul loiuidus imu-ke togo.
  2. Aulis bagoia ul iuinuia makto. Etut sapþabbae nunšis ki maddu.
  3. Appukat apti bikirris ul katte aulana nana-šikke no aopi.
  4. Motai apti ku arkeu ae det taemap ideupil bikirri tadeþþit.
  5. Ulþa domaita ku baptat saþesae motai ki nuppu-ulpeuit ku kulmao.
  6. Septu-šikais ro gippet nunnoia. Ketuggiu set ilul aulane attaop.
  7. Guddi ki gettas tenšoga ulpeuit. Attao imu-akilat kulmao audus.
  8. Arkai no dikop udul šeušitpu ae lu-biris þame appukat ulpia.

Discussion To summarize, the poem tells the story of a young shepherd who longs for adventure – that's at least the way I've interpreted it. But he doesn't want to leave his hometown behind, and especially not his mother. He does it anyway, though, and when he finds himself by the sea, he is so overwhelmed by it, that he is finally able to let go of the things that held him back. Meanwhile everything is the same back home, as the sheep are still doing what they've always done – the same could be thought to be true of his friends and family who are all probably still living life as they've always done).
So how does the poem fit into Aedian culture? Most Aedian narratives focus on the importance of staying with your family, staying in your hometown, not going too far away from home. So initially one would think that a story like that of Gutki wouldn't fit into the typical Aedian narrative.
There is, however, one narrative in Aedian culture that encourages leaving behind what you know and love in search of something greater, and that is the story of the mythological hero Biri. According to the myth and as told in the Aedian epic Aešku (“The Apotheosis”), Biri was a human who came into contact with a source of divine knowledge, allowing him to ascend into the heavens, fight the gods, and achieve ultimate insight into the divine. He paid the prize of giving up his mortal body and leaving behind everyone he knew and loved.
Aedian religion strongly emphasizes the separation between humans and gods and the fact that humans are ultimately cut off from true divine insight. Biri, however, is the one and only example in all of Aedian mythology of a human who crossed the line between the mortal realm and the divine.
While obviously operating on a much smaller scale, the story of Gutki, I think, could easily be seen as a parallel to that of Biri. Both are humans who grow unsatisfied with the way things are, which pushes them to search for something beyond the limits they once had. The ocean in the story of Gutki, especially, is a good parallel to the divine realm in Aešku, since the ocean in Aedian culture is regarded as something very foreign and exotic, full of danger and troubles.
So how about that, huh? This was really fun to translate, and I think you're going to have a lot of fun with it too!
So once again, I encourage you to translate the poem into your own conlangs and to think about how a story like this might fit into your concultures' narrative traditions!

2021.09.28 22:41 Unable-Schedule7036 Question about US Mantis

Okay, so I know they’re not the best company to say the least, but I live pretty close to them and they’re one of the only mantis places that have an L6/L7 male for my female ghost mantis. I was wondering if anyone has ever dealt with them in person? Like completely cut shipping out of the equation? I’m wondering if it’s worth the risk. As far as I know, they seem to take good care of their mantids, it’s just their shipping procedures that suck. Please correct me if I’m wrong though!

2021.09.28 22:41 kirbyboots I shoplift from a store chain I used to work for just because I can

Worked as a cashier then as a manager for a little while and on my last two days of my two weeks notice I realized how easy it is to steal. I know basically everything about loss prevention, I know what makes someone look suspicious, I know all the blind spots, and which cameras are fake. Though, I am paranoid that the "fake cameras" could possibly be monitored remotely by a security center so I still use blind spots. Heck I even know which locations are always on the lookout for thieves and which ones are too busy or too comfortable to notice how frequent theft occurs in their store. I also know when the associates would be busiest/most distracted and I know how many associates I can expect to be on the schedule per shift on a given day of the week. That being said I really just do it for fun. It's like a game. Seeing what you can fit into your bag and how much you can take is fun. I don't really get a thrill from it though and I'm not super happy or anything about the things I take. A lot of what I've taken has already exceeded what is useful or necessary for me. I've just been hoarding and giving things away. Sometimes when I'm on the road and I know I'll be passing one or multiple locations i just stop by, fill up my tote bag, dump everything in my trunk, and hit up the next location. I like seeing it accumulate. It's getting boring though. I've already taken a wide variety of what the store offers but hey that doesn't stop me.
